FACULTY POSITION University of Nevada, Reno Department of Chemical and Metallurgical Engineering
The Institute of Paper Science and Technology (IPST), founded in 1929, is a privately funded 501(c)(3) graduate research university with engineering and scientific programs related to the pulp and paper industry, and is accredited by the Commission of Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award the Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy degrees. The Institute has an alliance with the Georgia Institute of Technology, is a member of the University Center in Georgia and is located on the Georgia Tech campus. The following faculty position is open in Corrosion and Materials Engineering. As a member of the IPST faculty, the Associate or Assistant Professor will be responsible for directing activities of the Corrosion and Materials team, conducting fundamental and applied research; obtaining external funding; advising graduate students; and publishing reports and technical articles. The candidate will have a Ph.D. in Materials Science, Corrosion, or related fields with experience at an accredited academic or research institution or other organization commensurate with the faculty rank of appointment; teaching experience as demonstrated by curriculum, course, and laboratory development; experience as a faculty advisor in directing student research; peer recognition as demonstrated by journal articles, books, patents, and societies; and excellent communication and leadership skills. Preference will be given to candidates with academic experience in electrochemistry and aqueous corrosion and experience in high temperature corrosion. Experience in pulp and paper or related area and with peer recognition in the pulp and paper industry is also desired. The Department of Chemical and Metallurgical Engineering of the University of Nevada, Reno, invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level to begin on or after July 1, 1998, preferably by January 1, 1999. Exceptional candidates can be considered at the Associate Professor level but must meet University of Nevada, Reno standards for this rank. The Department is seeking candidates with demonstrated ability and outstanding potential for excellent teaching and research and whose research interests will complement those of the present faculty. This person will be expected to teach courses that are common to undergraduate chemical and metallurgical engineering curricula and graduate courses. ASSOCIATE MATERIALS SCIENTIST Ames Laboratory The Metallurgy and Ceramics research program of the Ames Laboratory is seeking an Associate Scientist to perform original research in the area of rapid solidification and powder metallurgy. The Associate Scientist will develop advanced alloys and processes and be able to use the analytical techniques required to evaluate microstructures and properties, i.e., TEM, SEM, XRD, DSC, and DTA. Position requires a Ph.D. in Metallurgical Engineering or related field plus at least one year of postdoctoral experience. Experience must be in the field of rapid solidification and physical metallurgy and must include the design and invention of new processing equipment and techniques. A demonstrated publication record in a variety of alloys systems is also required. Salary commensurate with experience and education.
