However, it is very clear t h a t a work t h a t is outof-print [or production) does not d i m i n i s h the rights g r a n t e d a copyright holder for the protection of t h a t work, n o r does it convey a n y additional rights to the end u s e r of the material. A u t h o r s are g r a n t e d protection for their works for a period of their life, p l u s fifty years. The fact t h a t the work is no longer in p r o d u c t i o n does not negate the a u t h o r ' s rights. There is no r e q u i r e m e n t , u n d e r the c u r r e n t copyright law, t h a t the rights g r a n t e d an a u t h o r are conditioned u p o n w h e t h e r or not the m a t e r i a l is actively being m a d e available.
