FROM THE EDITORS
H
ere with the first issue for 1996: our 102nd. The Editors would like to announce that the back-log of papers that had prevented, or slowed down for a while, consideration of new submissions has been overcome. In other words, the accumulated submissions from some years past have been processed. SOPHIA is now in a much better position to welcome - indeed invite - regular submission of new papers, articles, review disussions, booknotes and notices, for consideration. The editorial profile and policy of referee review of each submission remain the same (as noted on the inside of the front and back covers respectively). Books for review may be sent by publishers or their authors. Exchange advertisements are also welcomed. We have noted that there is still some confusion over the exact number of issues per year that subscribers are to receive. We stated in the Editorial of the 100th issue (vol 35 no. 1, 1995) that SOPHIA will henceforth appear TWICE a year (i.e. in Two Numbers: I & II), which replace the three issues a year that has been customary since SOPHIA's inception. There will br nQ number III hercQn. In this regard we would like to stress that neither the content nor the quality of the journal is being curtailed in the effort simply to keep to a minimum the material costs of producing and distributing x number of copies per issue each year. This has also been a way of avoiding further increase in subscription rates. Speaking
of which, the Managing Secretary advises us that a number of individual subscribers and institutions have lagged behind or overlooked to the renewal of their subscription for 1995-1996. It will greatly help us if you could ensure that your subscription is up-to-date, and if you would also encourage your department, institution, colleagues and friends to subscribe to the journal. Gifts and donations to the Society's infrastructure and endowment accounts will indeed be received with much gratitude.
