The IAG Newsletter is under the editorial responsibility of the IAG Central Bureau. It is an open forum and contributors are welcome to send material (preferably in electronic form) to the IAG Central Bureau. These contributions should complement information sent by IAG ocials or by IAG symposia organizers (reports and announcements). Each IAG Newsletter includes several of the following topics: · · · ·
general information reports of IAG symposia reports by national correspondents reports by commissions, special commissions or study groups · symposia announcements · book reviews · fast bibliography In Memoriam Professor emeritus Svend Saxov, Geophysical Department, Geological Institute, University of Aarhus, Denmark, has died. The IAG Central Bureau expresses its deepest sympathy to his family and former colleagues. His obituary will be published in the next IAG newsletter. Meeting announcements IUGG99, 18±30 July 1999. Birmingham Second circular, scienti®c program and call for abstracts are now available. Books for review are the responsibility of: Prof. Martin Vermeer Finnish Geodetic Institute Geodeetinrinne 2, (PL 15) SF±02431 Masala Finland e-mail: Martin.Vermeer@fgi.®
IUGG99 has a web site established at http:/ www.bham.ac.uk/IUGG99/ which is regularly updated. Here, you can ®nd out more about IUGG and its associations, about IUGG99, about Birmingham and the university. First Announcement and Call for Papers The 3rd International Symposium on GPS Technology 10±11 November 1998 Satellite Geoinformatics Research Center National Cheng Kung University, Tainan, Taiwan, Republic of China The symposium will focus on current GPS technology and its applications. Presentations may be in Mandarin or English. Session 1 Technology: GPS, Glonass, GIS, IVHS, space science, communications, software and hardware trend and data highway. Session 2 Applications: Natural resources, navigation, environment, geophysics, cadastral and engineering surveying, transportation, ecosystem management. Fast Bibliography The fast bibliography consists of a listing of papers relevant to geodesy that has been collected by the IAG bibliographic service since the previous issue of the fast bibliography (JG72/8). The IAG bibliographic service is based on the literary data bank GEOPHOKA, which is maintained by IfAG at the Branch Oce Leipzig, Leipzig Zentrale technisch± wissenschaftliche Angelegenheiten, Bibliothek, Karl± Rothe±Strasse 10±14, 04105 Leipzig, Germany. This version of the fast bibliography has been supplemented with papers registered by A Table of content in Geodesy provided by M&M Craymer and with papers registered by the American Congress on Surveying and Mapping (ACSM) bibliographic service. The IAG bibliographic service can be reached at the following Internet address: http://www.leipzig.ifag.de. Furthermore, bibliographic services are available through the homepage of IAG.
