PRODUCTION
In the M. G o r ' k i B o r s k g l a s s w o r k s t e s t s have been c o m p l e t e d on a new t h y r i s t o r d r i v e for the VVS m a c h i n e , developed at the suggestion of V. S. Shchukin, Yu. A. Knyazev, M. I. Popov, V. A. A m p l e e v , A. M. A b r a m o v , V. V. V e r s h i n i n a , A. P. Volkov, and Yu. S. Krivko. The s p e c i a l i s t s of the g l a s s m a n u f a c t u r e and KIPiA shops have been c o n c e r n e d with the introduction of t h y r i s t o r d r i v e s . G l a s s for VAZ i m p o s e s s t r i c t r e q u i r e m e n t s . F o r e x a m p l e , the t o l e r a n c e with r e s p e c t to thickness is not g r e a t e r than ~0.3 ram. On e x i s t i n g equipment it is v e r y difficult to m e e t these r e q u i r e m e n t s . It is p o s s i b l e to have the c a s e where p a r t of the g l a s s , which m a y be of good quality, has t o b e d i s c a r d e d b e c a u s e of failure to m e e t the thickness t o l e r a n c e r e q u i r e m e n t s . B e s i d e s this, the d r i v e s r e g u l a t i n g the r a t e of operation of the VVS m a c h i n e s w e r e i m p e r f e c t . The new t h y r i s t o r d r i v e s make it p o s s i b l e to r e g u l a t e the thickness of the g l a s s s t r i p with an a c c u r a c y of 0.02-0.03 m m and g u a r a n t e e a constant r a t e of e x t r a c t i o n . The quality of production is not a f fected by changes in the operation of the e n e r g y s y s t e m or by m e c h a n i c a l c a u s e s . This e l i m i n a t e s s c r a p ping b e c a u s e of the thickness of the g l a s s and m a k e s it p o s s i b l e to w o r k at m i n i m u m t h i c k n e s s e s , thus p r o d u c i n g l a r g e savings in m a t e r i a l s . The t h y r i s t o r d r i v e s a r e highly r e g a r d e d by the m a c h i n i s t s of the g l a s s - p r o d u c t i o n shop.
