It is our pleasure to announce the Primate Social Impact Award 2017. The high social impact paper is selected by the Editor-in-Chief, Vice Editor-in-Chief, and Associate Editor in charge of Public Relations, based on data sources such as the Altmetric score (mentions in the media and social networking sites) and full-text downloads.

The first smile: spontaneous smiles in newborn Japanese macaques (Macaca fuscata) (Kawakami et al. 2017). Both papers got a lot of media attention, were frequently mentioned in social networks, and highly downloaded. Their work thus contributed greatly to enhancing the reputation of our journal.
