Providem more involved in DM Healthcare providers are becoming increasingly active in disease management (DM), but are facing huge obstacles in the process, indicate results of a survey by CSC Healthcare/APM. 62% of respondents reported that they had the staff and 58% reported that they had the budget for DM activities. The major challenges in DM development were cited as 'insufficient information technology support' (reported by 31% of respondents), 'staffing constraints' (20%) and 'budget constraints' (18% ). Moreover, 30% reported that there was inadequate understanding ofDM concepts at their own organisation. The survey, which involved > 90 provider groups, found that> 70% ofhealthcare providers have engaged in DM partnership efforts to date, a strategy which may help to ease the difficulties of DM development.
