During the f i r s t six months of the a n n i v e r s a r y y e a r the Red A r m y Silica Plant fulfilled its g r o s s production plan by 102.4%, and in real t e r m s by 102%. It has made an extra 2323 tons of r e f r a c t o r i e s on top of the plan. The cost of all products delivered to the m a r k e t was only 99.4% of the plan, and as a r e s u l t of cost cuts the economy has received a total of 21,000 rubies. Output per w o r k e r was 101.2% of the plan. Hard work by the staff, as well as the use of management and technical m e a s u r e s that have boosted efficiency and improved quality, have all helped to fulfil the p r o g r a m . During the f i r s t six months we have c a r r i e d out various m e a s u r e s aimed at completing production tasks: modernization of a r e v o l v e r p r e s s , increasing its force to 400 tons; installation of drying drum No. 2 for drying c h r o m i t e s ; sealing the jaw c r u s h e r s ; covering floors in the grinding section; i n c r e a s i n g the production of z i r c o n nozzles to 600 tons a y e a r ; and we have installed runner mills and a friction p r e s s , and expanded social s e r v i c e s . The f a c t o r y r a t t o n a l i z e r s have done a lot of work in the p l a n t to mechanize and automate the technology; their proposals since the s t a r t of the y e a r have saved 54,600 rubles. The collective has also worked at improving production standards and the use of scientific work organization. Eight creative teams have been set up for the implementation of scientific work organization, and they have made 42 proposals which have led to savings of 12,000 rubles. The collective has paid a lot of attention to improving working conditions: they have installed continuous extraction c h a m b e r s over conveyor belts, organized sprinkling of the wails in the grinding division, and done some work to brighten up the f a c t o r y t e r r i t o r y with shrubs and flowers; roads and sidewalks have been asphalted, and climbing plants have been planted n e a r walls. The collective is steadily improving technology and m a s t e r i n g the production of new types of goods: nonpowdering, h i g h - f i r e d dinas for the stoves of blast furnaces working with blast t e m p e r a t u r e s of 13001400~ shaped z i r c o n a r t i c l e s for b u r n e r ports and c h e c k e r s of r e g e n e r a t o r s in glass furnaces. E x p e r t mental batches of z i r c o n a r t i c l e s have been made. Work has been done to improvel the spalling r e s i s t a n c e of z i r c o n nozzles and b a t c h e r s for continuous steel casting plant. Work to develop the production of new types of r e f r a c t o r y is being done in conjugation with the Ukraine R e f r a c t o r i e s R e s e a r c h Institute. In r e c e n t y e a r s the plant in collaboration with this Institute has developed p r o g r e s s i v e p r o c e s s e s for making silica for c o n v e r t e r s , coking ovens, and glass f u r n a c e s ; d i n a s - c h r o m i t e , d i n a s - z i r c o n , and unfired dinas products with a bakelite bond, etc. The enthusiasm of the w o r k e r s has resulted in the production of better goods. The plant's products show excellent s e r v i c e ins'ide the country and abroad. The p r o ducts a r e exported to many countries. The outstanding results have been obtained as a r e s u l t of the s e l f - i m p o s e d tasks of the w o r k e r s , engineers, and technicians. In the lead are the leading p r o d u c e r s , the " s t r i k e r s for communist work, " who are showing a communist attitude to solving p r o b l e m s that now face the collective; the S.S. M o r e than 30 w o r k e r s in the plant a r e leading p r o d u c e r s and have had their name in the Book of Honor. They include p r e s s o p e r a t o r s I. M. Khomenko, V. F. Slobodenyuk, I. V. Zavgorodnii and P. S. Leonov; setting o p e r a t o r s A. T. Shamro, V. I. Pogrebyanak; l o a d e r s N. V. Put'ko, I. G. Chergin, and m a n y others. The w o r k e r s ' collective of the Red A r m y Silica Plant, like all Soviet people, a r e p r e p a r i n g to g r e e t the 50th a n n i v e r s a r y of the revolution.

In this jubilee y e a r the w o r k e r s at the Plant a r e faced with the s e r i o u s t a s k of c o m pleting their s o c i a l i s t r e s p o n s i b i l i t i e s -- by 29 D e c e m b e r to complete the annual plan and to m a k e an e x t r a 3000 tons of r e f r a c t o r i e s , including 2780 tons by the a n n i v e r s a r y date; to produce an e x t r a 100,000 rubles b e f o r e the end of the y e a r , including 96,500 rubles by 7 N o v e m b e r ; as a r e s u l t of mechanization of laborious jobs to complete the production plan by 100.5%, to reduce production costs and to m a k e e x t r a - p l a n e c o n o m i e s of 23,000 r u b l e s , including 21,000 rubles by the anniv e r s a r y date; to obtain an e x t r a plan p r o f i t of 65,000 rubles including 60,000 rubles by the above date; and during the c u r r e n t y e a r to use 370 r a t i o n a l i s t ideas with savings of 120,000 r u b l e s . W o r k is also being done to f u r t h e r i m p r o v e the r e s t conditions of the w o r k e r s ; we a r e extending the d i s p e n s a r y and s t a r t i n g to build a living combine p r o v i d e d with a beach and s w i m m i n g facilities. The f a c t o r y is changing to the five-day week with two days off. p r e p a r a t i o n s a r e being m a d e to change the plant to the new s y s t e m of economic p l a n ning and stimulus.
