ANNOUNCEMENTS Third Symposium on Aviation Psychology April 22-25, 1985, Columbus, Ohio An international group of scientists, engineers, pilots, and government specialists will gather together April 22 through April 25, 1985, for the Third Symposium on Aviation Psychology in Columbus, Ohio. The theme for this symposium is "The Human in Aviation Safety." Papers will be presented in the areas of cockpit design, cockpit resource management, pilot judgment, accident investigation, and pilot reliability and workload. This biennial symposium series was first convened by the Aviation Psychology Laboratory of The Ohio State University in 1981. The objective of this symposium series is to critically examine the impact of high technology on the role, responsibility, authority, and performance of human operations in modern aircraft and air traffic control systems. New to the Third Symposium will be tutorials offered by experts in the fields of aviation and psychology. The following tutorials will be given: Computers in Simulation for Training, Stanley Trollip, University of Minnesota; Speech Technology, Robert North, Honeywell, Inc.; Aviation Physiology, Stanley Mohler; Pilot Judgment, Allen Diehl, FAA, and Georgette Buch, Transport Canada; Cockpit Resource Management, Captain David Shroyer, United Airlines; and Fear of Flying, Captain T. Cummings. Symposium speakers from eleven countries, four foreign military services, seven aerospace corporations, six research organizations, seventeen colleges and universities, the United States Air Force, Navy, and Army, and four United States government groups will be on the program. Invitations have been sent to 2,500 scientists and engineers, pilots, researchers, and government sponsors of research. The symposium will be open to registrants in any area, including students. Third European Conference on Eye Movements (ECEM3) September 24-27, 1985, near Paris, France The Third European Conference on Eye Movements will be held at Dourdan, near Paris, France, from September 24th to 27th, 1985. Its aim is to confront work being done in different fields (psychology, physiology, neuropsychology, ophthalmology, engineering, artificial intelligence, ergonomics, pathology, development, education) concerning the functions, capacities, and limitations of the visual system at work through its mobility. Specialized symposia will be held on topics concerning, among others, oculomotor control, eye movements in perception and reading, and eye movements as a tool of ergonomics.
