The 22rid Congress of the CPSU Ufa Oil Refinery is one of the largest enterprises of the Ministry of the Oilrefining and Petrochemical Industries of the USSI~ Twelve years have elapsed since the first units were put in operation. In this period the projected capacity of the refinery was increased by a factor of 1.4. As a result of changes in the composition of the processed crudes and an enlarged assortment of products, the project of the refinery was repeatedly under review and new processes were added. Today the refinery produces fuels and lubricants and is slanted towards petrochemicals. The construction of the refinery continues and new plants arebeing put into operation. Besides the typical basic production (gasolines, diesel fuel, kerosene, fuel oil, lubricants, liquefied gases, and bitumen), the refinery supplies customers with various raw materials for petrochemical production, as well as lowmolecular synthetic fatty acids for soap manufacture, synthetic lubricants, cooling oil, P-3 and PN-6 plasticizers (grade K and Sh), arctic diesel fuel, white oil, polymer distillate, sulfuric acid, oil additives, extraction gasoline, etc. In all, the refinery supplies the national economy with 60 different products. The refinery produces a significant quantity of low-sulfur distillation fuels and raw materials for the petrochemical industry, although up to 60% of the total volume of crude oil processed represents high-sulfur crudes. This is achieved by extensive application of secondary refining processes. In 1969 the production of automobile gasolines with octane numbers 72 and 76 constituted 50% and the production of diesel fuels with a sulfur content of 0.2-0.3% constituted 80% of the total volume of these products produced. The workers of the refinery have marked the year 1969 with new achievements in view of the forthcoming 100th anniversary of V. I. Lenin's birthday. All efforts of the collective in 1969 and in the first quarter of 1970 were directed towards the fulfillment of the government plan, both in volume and in assortment of the production achieved, towards further increase of capacities, quality improvement, and the introduction of new production aspects and new technological processes, the introduction of measures to reduce the consumption of reagents, crude oil and product losses, and to acheive savings of energy resources. The plan for the total and shipped production for 1969 has been fulfilled. In 1969 the planned capacities for hydrogen production and the hydrofining of diesel fuels has been achieved in a relatively short period of time. The plant for the adsorptive purification of soft 56-4 paraffins has been put into operation; furthermore, the 1-A catalytic cracking plant and the extraction block of the catalytic reforming plant were reconstructed, the plant for the biological purification of stocks put into operation, and the work on the construction and enlargement of the orthoand para-xylene production continued. The production of heavy polymer distillate was started. In accordance with the plan for the introduction of new technology, a computer center was organized in cooperation with the Bashkir Branch of the SKB ANN. A Ural-14D computer was set up and specialists trained in its operation and programming. A UM-1 computer was set up to operate the catalytic reforming plants, thus achieving an improved control, calculation planning, mad operation of the process. A plant for the purification of refluxes from thermal and catalytic cracking with tripotassium phosphate was constructed to reduce the consumption of alkali. For the same purpose the blowing of hydrogen sulfide from hydrofined gasolines was introduced and, in cooperation with the Grozny Scientific-Research Institute (OrozNII), a scheme for the incomplete saponification of the oxidation products on the synthetic fatty acids plant was developed. In 1969 the refinery has significantly reduced crude oil and product losses. A number of measures were taken regarding the energy supply of the refinery, leading to a significant saving of fuel, steam, water, and electrical power, An effort was undertaken by the collective of the refinery to introduce the Bashkir experiment, aiming at in.creased productivity to increase the production volume with simultaneous reduction of production personnel. 456 workers became redundant as a result of this effort, or 166 workers after six months. As a result of the extension of service zones and the combination of professions, IL329 workers got salary increases. The average salary increase in the refinery was 16.25. In 1969 the collective of the refinery achieved a saving of 36,300 rubles from the salary funds. The productivity increased by 2 . 6 5 over the planned increase. In 1970 the refinery collective faces the introduction of oleum production, the reconstruction and putting into operation of the plant for the distillation of soft paraffins and of the production of sulfonate additives, the introduction, in accordance with the requirements, of the production of polyfunctional alkylphenol additives, and of the plant for the compression of straight-run gases. Besides this, the construction and putting into operation of the total xylenes production must be achieved this year, as well as of the production of synthetic fatty alcohols, special lubricants, and the AMT-300 heat carrier. With regard to the many years of experience in the introduction and exploitation of new capacities, the refinery collective wi!t without any doubt successfully master the tasks of the final year of the five-year plan.
