CHRONICLE
VII All-Russian Workshop Conference on Coordination Chemistry The VII All-Russian Workshop Conference on Coordination Chemistry was held on August 28 to September 1, 2000, on the Volga shore near the town of Cheboksary. The Conference was organized by the Scientific Council on Inorganic Chemistry of the RAS (Section of Coordination Chemistry), the Kurnakov Institute of General and Inorganic Chemistry of the RAS, the Tupolev Kazan State Technical University, and the Ekotsentr Research and Production Center and was supported by the Russian Foundation for Basic Research. The VII Workshop Conference continued the traditions of the All-Union workshops on coordination chemistry held in different years in Uzhgorod, Tashkent, Ashkhabad, Tver, Alushta, and, after a long interval, in 1987, in the Crimea (Beregovoe). The Conference was attended by 58 scientists representing scientific institutions from various cities of Russia. According to the accepted procedure, only invited lectures and reports are delivered at the workshop conferences. The program of the Conference included 17 lectures and reports concerned with the following main lines of research: chemistry of mono- and polynuclear coordination compounds, spectroscopy and radiospectroscopy of coordination compounds, X-ray diffraction analysis of coordination compounds, stereochemistry
of coordination compounds, and new materials based on coordination compounds. A debating society was organized; various problems of modern coordination chemistry and fundamental scientific results obtained in this field of science for the last three years were discussed during its sessions. The Conference Workshop was attended by prominent scientists and specialists in coordination chemistry, namely, Corresponding Member of the RAS I.L. Eremenko, Corresponding Member of the RAS O.G. Sinyashin, Professors and Doctors of Science A.N. Glebov, P.N. Dyachkov, G.M. Larin, Yu.V. Kokunov, S.E. Nefedov, I.V. Ovchinnikov, S.P. Petrosyants, A.A. Pasynskii, V.S. Sergienko, and others. Owing to the support of the Russian Foundation for Basic Research, the greater part of the participants (more than 50%) were post graduates and young scientists under 30 years of age. With the object of increasing the skills of specialists and researchers, the program of the Workshop Conference included lectures on the use of physical methods, in particular, EPR, NMR, and X-ray diffraction analysis, in the study of geometrical and electronic structures of coordination compounds.
