This book was intended for students from tropical and subtropical countries attending ah International Potato course conducted by the International Agricultural Center at Wageningen, Netherlands. It's aim was to provide basic information pertaining to production and development of the potato in areas not well known for production techniques. The content of this text is rather elementary but well organized for students with no knowledge of the potato. For students in advanced areas where potatoes are grown its contents are not very useful because of more advanced areas of potato agronomy, physiology, breeding, and marketing. However, the text has a useful purpose for underdeveloping countries and areas where potatoes are relatively unknown o r a curiosity. Hugh J. Murphy Editor-in-Ghief AMERICAN POTATO JOURNAL
