PAUL MANDEL
Foreword
PAUL MANDEL Keeping with a now three year old tradition, Neurochemical Research, in one issue each year, honours outstanding scientists in the field of Neurochemistry. This volume is dedicated to Professor Paul Mandel, founder and Director until 1979 of the Centre of Neurochemistry in Strasbourg (France). This volume is made up of articles written by some of his pupils, who wish in this way to show their affectionate gratitude to "le Patron", by colleagues who spent some of their scientific career at the Centre of Neurochemistry who wish to express their appreciation to the scientist and finally by a few persons as was the case for the issue editor, who came to the Centre of Neurochemistry only for a short time and then stayed there and who wish to pay homage to this exceptional man. Knowing the thirst of Paul Mandel for research, we are all certain to have chosen the best way of thanking him. But this homage could not be limited to a simple collection of papers and we thought that it would be appropriate that one of the pupils of Paul Mandel, the present Director of the Centre of Neurochemistry, Guy Vincendon, should write a few words on the man and his scientific work.
