Scattering Of electromagnetic waves in artificially gyrotropic media formed by spatial lattices is considered. Complex scattering centers a r e located at the lattice points, each of these being a system of three dielectric cylinders with noneoplanar axes. Anisotropy of the artificial dielectrics is produced by absence of a center and plane of symmetry in the system. Expressions a r e obtained for effective dielectric and magnetic permittivity tens6rs, gyration vectors, and indices of refraction. 2he dependence of the gyrotropic properties of a medium formed by a cubic spatial lattice upon symmetry of the scattering centers is studied. It is shown that such a dielectric has the property of rotating the plane of polarization of an electromagnetic wave upon exit from a layer of definite thickness. Dep. 3760-79, October 31, 1979.
