CHICAGO SECTION MEETING The Chicago Section of SEM held its first meeting of the 1990-91 tenn on September 20, 1990. The meeting began with a tour of the Advanced Photon Source (APS) facility at Argonne National Laboratory, Argonne, IL. After dinner, Dr. G.K. Shenoy, Program Director of the Advanced Photon Source, talked about the facility. Dr. Shenoy explained that the APS is a high energy synchrotron X-ray radiation facility, being built at Argonne. It is the largest science project in the state. Upon completion in 1995, APS will provide the worlds brightest X-ray beam for applications ranging from chips manufacturing, to medical diagnostics to material sciences. The talk also focused on the present and future utility of synchrotron radiation in such fields as physics, chemistry, material science, biology, earth science, agri: cultural and medical sciences.
