This issue of the Journal of Neuro-Oncology marks a time of change. After many years of dedicated service, Dr. Joseph Piepmeier has relinquished his position as Editor. Joe did a superb job in that role and we are sure you join us in saluting and thanking him. His are large shoes to fill, but we are committed to the job. It is probably an auspicious time to make a couple of observations. The first is that the field of neuro-oncology is a noble endeavor. All of us, in one way or another, are dedicated to understanding the causes and treatments for nervous system tumors that affect of the patients they afflict. Many of these tumors claim membership among the most recalcitrant and lethal of human malignancies. The second is that this field is one of the most interactive, multidisciplinary ones in oncology. We frequently see papers that include neurosurgeons, neuropathologists, neuro-oncologists and basic scientists as co-authors and similar breadth in the registrants at neuro-oncology meetings. This brings a richness, rigor and focus to these overridingly important problems. Correspondingly, we are committed to making the Journal of Neuro-Oncology a home for the very best discoveries in all of these areas of neuro-oncology investigation. Our goal is to continue to increase the visibility and quality of the Journal so that it can continue as the flagship publication for communicating results of vital importance in this area for all L. of you. We cannot, however, do this alone and will need your active participation and ownership. This means that we will ask for your best papers, ask for your time in giving thoughtful and constructive reviews when invited, ask for your agreement to serve on the Editorial Board as appropriate, and ask for you to embrace the Journal as your vehicle for sharing the results of your studies with the community. Together, we will ensure that the Journal of NeuroOncology is a superb representative of our field. We look forward to working with you.
