I N T E R N A T I O N A L FEDERATION OF P H Y S I C A L EDUCATION (FIEP) Origins and Membership
The FIEP first came into being on July 1lth, 1923 at an international congress in the Palais Mondial in Brussels, Its original name was the Fédération Internationale de Gymnastique Educative (FIGE). No doubt the tremendous influence of Ling's 'Swedish System' of gymnastics during this period was one reason why, in 1930, the FIGE changed its name to the Fédération Internationale de Gymnastique Ling, and so it remained until 1953 when the Federation adopted its present title.
