Case 2653. Hapalorhynchus beadlei Goodman, 1987 (Trematoda, Digenea): proposed replacement of the holotype by a lectotype
Thomas R. Platt
Department of Biology, Saint Mary's College, Notre Dame, Indiana 46556, USA Abstract. The purpose of this application is the suppression of the type status of the specimen designated as the holotype of Hapalorhynchus beadlei Goodman, 1987, a blood fluke (family SPIRORCHIIDAE).This specimen does not conform to the original description or figure, and is an example of H. tchalimi Bourgat & Kulo, 1987. The specimen in the original illustration is proposed as the lectotype.
Opinions published in the Bulletin of Zoological Nomenclature The following Opinion was published on 24 June 1988 in Vol. 45, Part 2 of the Bulletin of Zoological
Nomenclature.
Opinion 1484. Trypanosoma brucei Plimmer & Bradford, 1899 (Protista, Mastigophora): spelling of specific name confirmed Proposed fourth edition of the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature - a call for possible amendments to the third (1985) edition The International Commission on Zoological Nomenclature has embarked on the preparation of a new (fourth) edition of the Code and has established an Editorial Committee for that purpose. It is expected that publication will be in late 1994 or in 1995. A considerable number of possible amendments to the Code have been suggested and these will be examined by the Editorial Committee. The Commission invites the submission of further possible amendments to the current (1985) Code and these should be sent as soon as possible to the Executive Secretary, ICZN, British Museum (Natural History), Cromwell Road, London SW7 5BD, UK. It is intended that proposals received by the end of 1989 will be discussed at meetings held in conjunction with the International Congress of Systematic and Evolutionary Biology (ICSEB) in Maryland in July 1990.

Official Lists and Indexes of Names and Works in Zoology - Supplement The Official Lists and Indexes was published in 1987. This gave all the names and works on which the International Commission on Zoological Nomenclature had ruled since it was set up in 1895 up to December 1985. There were about 9,900 entries. In the three years since 1985, 544 names and 3 works have been added to the Official Lists and Indexes A supplement has been prepared giving these additional entries, together with some amendments to entries in the 1987 volume. This supplement can be obtained without charge from the following addresses, from which the Official Lists and Indexes can be ordered at the price shown: The International Trust for Zoological Nomenclature, British Museum (Natural History), Cromwell Road, London SW7 5BD, UK. The William C. Campbell Endowment Fund The Harold W. Manter Laboratory, University of Nebraska State Museum, is pleased to announce the establishment of the William C. Campbell Endowment Fund for Visiting Scientists at the HWML. The Harold W. Manter Laboratory is one of three National Resource Centres for Parasitology in the USA. Specimen Collections of more than 80,000 lots include some 6,900 species and more than 1,800 lots of paratype specimens. The collections are world-wide in scope with emphasis on helminths of marine and freshwater fishes. The HWML is the repository for specimens deposited by H. W. Manter, D. R. Brooks, R. M. Cable, D. C. Kritsky, R. W, Macy, G. C. Miller, J. D. Mizelle, S. C. Schell, J. T. Self, F. Sogandares-Bernal and others. The library includes more than 53,000 reprints, 1000 books, and numerous journals. Parasitology holdings in the UN-L Libraries have been supervised by specialists beginning with Henry Baldwin Ward. The Manter Laboratory is provided with the appropriate equipment for collecting, preserving, storing and studying parasites. Visitors are always welcome, but those desiring to work at HWML should make prior arrangements. The William C. Campbell Endowment Fund was established by Merck & Co. Inc., when Dr Campbell was honoured with the 1987 Directors' Scientific Award for his contributions to the development of the avermectin/ivermectin family of antiparasitic compounds. Dr Campbell designated the endowment for a Visiting Scientist Programme so that the HWML resources can be shared with a larger number of parasitologists, enable individual research projects, and provide an even more creative environment at the HWML. Awards will support quality systematic research as well as innovative research based on specimens or specimen data, and normally they will not exceed $600.00. Applications for the following calendar year that are received by 1st October will be given priority, although applications will be accepted throughout the year. Inquiries and application forms may be obtained by writing or telephoning The Curator The Harold W. Manter Laboratory University of Nebraska State Museum W-529 Nebraska Hall Lincoln, Nebraska 68588-0514, USA Telephone: (402) 472-3334

In this volume the list of references on the species belonging to the genus Haemaphysalis is included. The information has been organized in three chapters. The first only includes the references in alphabetical order of the species of parasites, together with the corresponding synonymies and, if relevant, the different opinions of the authors who have worked on the subject. The references under the host's alphabetical order are shown next, together with their classification data, according to higher taxons, and details of their synonymies. Finally, references appear according to the geographical area of origin, organized on a country or sociopolitical unity basis. This series is published by the University of Zaragoza.
